We are delighted to announce our newest Matakki Scissors Ambassador!
Charlie Venn! Owner and barber at Lucky Sevens Barbershop in the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, which opened in 2019. A traditional barbershop which has had a modern revamp, same classic cuts with newly developed techniques & training. Charlie has been barbering around 9 years, and has been supported by his fiancé (or partner in crime) Tash, he expressed without her help he would be unable to succeed with managing his own clients, the shop, events and social media.
We asked Charlie what his biggest achievement to this date is, to which he replied: “Ever since I started in the industry, I dreamed of opening a shop, and LSB is an exact curation of everything I wanted.“
Charlie First started using our tools in 2016, where he got his first pair of Matakki Scissors. He Initially used our previous Barber Scissor, which has since been reworked and re-released. We’d say that’s OG status, since Charlie has gone on to upgrade since. Since securing himself a Talon scissor, along with giving us a personal visit at Barber Connect 2023, to which he couldn’t resists the performance of the Assassin Scissor Set.
We’ve long admired Charlie’s modern-classic work, old school style with a modern flair to create the ultimate combination. Focusing on enhancing the experience each of his clients, as well as providing a primo cut EVERY SINGLE TIME. With scissor work being such a huge element of the classic style of cutting, we are thrilled that Charlie would trust our tools and stand by using them for years. The Modern-Classic style doesn’t end with Charlie’s cuts, his shop is the perfect culmination of these styles. A bright space, with colourful walls, checked flooring and even a completely separate room called the PINK PALACE! Which is kitted with everything Pink, including our Matakki Pink Rubber mats.
Charlie has been a longstanding ambassador for well respected brands in the industry, namely Uppercut Deluxe. To which Charlie has expressed his love for, and stated he would only work with and represent companies which he fully believes in. Which is a feeling we tend to reciprocate with our ambassador/mentor teams, individuals who have been using our tools for a while will always be first when considering new members to our team! We are proud to have such a dedicated & talented barber such as Charlie joining our roster.
Talking inspiration, Charlie expressed his interest with traditional barbering, with a focus on outstanding overall customer experience. Stating it’s not all about the haircut. We asked Charlie if he would have any advice to any new starters in the industry, to which he said: “Be prepared to work hard. Even now, I’m constantly working to better myself, watching haircut tutorials, taking inspiration from people online, talking tools and techniques with other barbers to take in as much knowledge as I can. After 9 years, I honestly feel like I work harder now than I did when I started!”
To finish up, we asked one final question regarding managing adversities and failure. To which Charlie left this statement “Failure is not an option, it just means you need to find a different way of doing things. When we opened LSB in 2019, little did we know that 6 months later we would end up in a national lockdown. Instead of getting down about it, I used the time that the shop was shut to work on myself and my brand, I watched a lot of content and started to write my own education programme, enabling me to start offering 1:1 and group barber education once restrictions were lifted.”
We are honoured to be represented by a such a genuine and talented individual such as Charlie, who has been involved with our tools for many years! A skilful barber, shop owner and content creator who has widely been recognised throughout the industry with a plethora of award nominations and brining trophies back to his shelf at LSB. We’re excited to introduce him as a part of our team, going forward watch along for Matakki related content from the man himself! Mr Charlie Venn.
