Comprising of two Directors (James and Emma Curd), Matakki is a family-owned company with high values and specialist expertise in the manufacturing and provision of Barber and hairdressing scissors.
James is the Founding Director at Matakki scissors and formed the company back in 2003 when he saw a gap in the market for the supply of high quality scissors. Before life at Matakki Scissors, James has worked within the industry for almost 30 years working for some of the biggest brands including, Goldwell, Vidal Sasoon and Wahl.
A Master Technician trained in Japan in the traditional methods of blade sharpening, Japanese whetstones methods and hairdressing and barber maintenance, he is an authority on steel, scissor production and maintenance.
James has also always had a flair for design and social media marketing and most of the companies marketing you see today is designed by James, he's not ready (yet) to hang his boots up.
Our second Director is Emma and she holds over twenty-two years as a clinical Nurse specialist, and has worked alongside consultants, Physiotherapists, and occupational health experts. Not only supporting in major surgery, Emma, also has first-hand experience of performing minor surgical procedures and understands the importance of quality tools when undertaking intricate work with your hands.
Emma provides qualified training and knowledge regarding repetitive strain syndrome and ergonomics. A highly accredited practitioner Emma consults on the specification of Matakki products in relation to the user’s health and wellbeing and can detail the difference variances in steel and design can make to the scissors you use.
With a focus on advising regarding finding the right scissor for you as an individual, Emma provides evidence-based information relating to the importance of selecting the right tools for the job and why this varies based on multiple factors.
We believe that this valuable information is essential to ensure that you avoid health related problems during your career, removing risk factors which could lead to musculoskeletal injuries and facilitate better performance and productivity for you.
Further to this Emma provides education relating to the Prevention of cross infection, health and safety and COSSH (Care of Substances hazard to health) which can be put into practice practically when working on the shop floor.
