Biography

My name is Yucel Olmezkaya AKA, JJ THE BARBER!! I am 46 years old. Born in Germany but I am originally from Turkey. Been barbering in the UK for 3 years however my skills are from 80’s where I trained but not carried on the trade due to pursuing another career. I picked my tools up after 20 years and do not regret giving up my career (Police Force). I manage a shop in Warwickshire little town Kenilworth called Groom and Gents where apart from barbering we offer traditional Turkish grooming.

What is your proudest achievement to date?

Is to win the “Hall of Fame” competition 2016 in August which was organized by the British Barbers Association. Also feeling proud to be invited to some shows to showcase my skills on different stand representing different brands. It is an achievement for as I am new in the UK barbering industry and is great to be recognized. In addition to that this is becoming an Ambassador for Matakki brand.

Who inspires you in the industry and why?

Well there is a plethora of talent out there to choose from. But these some stand out for me in a special way, Chris Foster because of his journey where he is now. Tom Baxter, Alan Beak, Kieron Price, Paul Mac, Ryan Cullen and Josh Lamanoca are names that inspired me in this industry where I picked up some skills.
