Biography

My name is Nikodem Szulc. I’m 17 years old and I have worked as a barber for 5 years. I have recently received the accolade of Best National Barber in Poland in the wet towel shaving in 2019. In my family barbering has always been a part of everyday life. I use Matakki Scissors because I believe they are the best. My father uses Matakki and everybody who works in the shop uses them because we believe they are the Number one Brand and I am very proud to work with the company. My career began when my father Adam Szulc a barber of 33 years and owner of “Adam Szulc Barber” and I attended my first training session back in 2014 when I was only 12. Sometime later I told my dad that I wanted to learn more about barbering and to start working in a barbershop. My father did not see a problem with that and encouraged me. He made a phone call and said, “I got you your first client for tomorrow.” I remember sweeping the floors and emptying bins just so I could get a peek at of the barbering world. I believe the profession takes a lot of patience, dedication, engagement and above all consistency. You should start at the bottom, sweep the floor, wash the windows, empty those bins and do not take offence when asked to do it. These should be the beginnings of every barber to understand every part. My father has mentored and supported me every step of the way. I used to go to work with him every Saturday from 5 am to 2 pm. Since then I have done more and more haircuts, I have been learning new things every day and so I continue to do what I am doing because “A hairdresser learns all his life.”

What is your proudest achievement to date?

Working with my family in one shop. Im proud to be first polish Master of Shave what happened few months ago in my city.

Who inspires you in the industry and why?

My Dad, he has been my first teacher of profession and life. I love Schorem guys, I like the styles they create. My other inspiration is military, I’m interested in airsoft games and that’s why  I like short, buzz and crew cut haircuts. I also like British barbers, they are different than others. The Crop cut is great fashion which I also like to do. Recently I was in National Barber Museum in Ohio, this museum shows how history and tradition is important in our craft. Not only skills but the knowledge about past in barbering, that’s what I try to blend in my cuts.

What is your favourite food?

Pizza Margherita. Everywhere I visit I try to eat it local foods. My best places I’ve enjoyed food are in Berlin and NYC.

Inspirational Quote
